I Woke up to the coqui frogs outside my window with the AC blasting and the room covered in darkness. Soon enough I convinced myself to get up out of bed and begin exploring. We all woke up and decided venturing out to a local restaurant called Casa Dante a few blocks away would be the best option, followed by a day at the beach.
The warm air poured over my skin, and the breeze followed immediately as we took our time lazily walking the streets. When we finally reached the restaurant, through the front window, an older gentleman saw us walking towards the door. He immediately stopped eating and rose from his meal to come and open the door for us. Yet again reawakening my belief that chivalry is still alive and well. We were seated at a table facing the front of the restaurant with the bar behind us.
Our waiter immediately inquired on what we would like to drink and I quickly decided on a Medalla , the local Puerto Rican beer. I was pleasantly surprised by the strong yet citrusy taste.
I ended up trying mofongo for the first time. Which is a mashed plantains. They were buttery and absolutely delicious. I also ordered chicken in a creole sauce.
We then walked to the beach which is literally a block from the house, you can smell the salt in the air and feel the warm breeze rushing down the streets. After the waves had pushed me around for a bit, resulting in scrapes all over my knees and feet, an ice cream truck rolled around and we raced to buy a few treats for the rest of the afternoon.
The owner spoke no English, and I speak no Spanish. This ended with us joyfully playing a bit of charades and sharing some awkward laughs.
We spent the rest of the day lounging on the beach sipping on Gasolina.
If like to know what you all think about chivalry. Do you think our generation has forgotten how and what it means?
