Bhan Gatkuoth - Host of "Daughter" Podcast Series

Why you need this:

If you need a little humor and a little perspective join Bhan and her mother as they travel through time and all of the experiences that made both of them who they are in the Podcast Series "Daughter".

My favorite thing about The Podcast series "Daughter" is how the story flows. Bhan switches in between background sounds and her mothers voice pouring through the headphones so clear and effortlessly . She  sounds so much like all of the members of my family that for a second I forget that I'm sitting at work plugging away at the computer.

"Bhan Gatkuoth is an independent podcast producer who is passionate about sharing the stories of marginalized groups. Her podcast series, Daughter, is one that is dedicated to sharing the untold stories of her mother. A strong South Sudanese woman who was unfortunately forced to become a child bride, a prisoner, and a refugee all before she turned 21 years old.

The story of Bhan and her mother is one that uniquely situates their mother-daughter dynamic against the backdrop of their social positions while at the same time highlights the importance of voice and representation in our collective history.

At the age of 22 Bhan currently works as a radio and television traffic reporter, volunteers weekly with an immigrant women's association in her local area, is a proud and dedicated feminist, has graduated with a diploma in Broadcast News Journalism, and is looking forward to graduating this spring with a Bachelors degree in Communication Studies from the University of Calgary. She's also a big fan of coconut cream pie, and Friday night binges of episodes of The Office (Gatkuoth)."
